Thranduil Costume
I patterned this jacket by drafting a bodice and train separately. I then cut each half of the front as a single piece (bodice + skirt), but left the back of the train as two pieces, seamed at center back. The back of the bodice was princess seamed from the armscye to the waistline. Each half of the front was further pieced into 11 individual panels (these panels did not extend to the back). The front closes with a zipper which begins near the natural waist and ends at the base of the collar. The material is brocade, which I lined with a taffeta (like?) material of matching color. I shortened the train from the movie inspiration so it would be more wearable.
The crown is constructed of floral wire, which I twisted into varying thicknesses to achieve the branch-like look. I then covered the floral wire with hot glue to give a base to paint. The paint is acrylic, and the leaf decorations are a cut of floral arrangement. The crown is light-weight and pliable, but sturdy enough to hold it’s shape.
